Our aim at Ocado Retail is to develop outstanding graduate hires across four of ORL’s functions – Buying, Finance, Insights and Marketing

Across all the streams we look to give you responsibility from day one as we believe the best way to learn is by doing, though we’ll be here to support you the whole way. So if you are looking for an exciting first step into retail at a fast-growing business, there is a scheme for you.

The streams come together for induction into the whole business at the start of the scheme, as well as regular learning and development sessions (and of course the odd social event!). We ask that you only apply to one scheme.

  • From day one we promote you to challenge what’s possible by investing in your development with a comprehensive induction training programme, followed by regular upskill and refresher training – together and within your teams.

  • As part of your onboarding, you will meet your support team; this consists of your Department Coach/Mentor, L&D and HR Business Partner – they will support with the facilitation of successful learning outcomes along with general day-to-day support and guidance

Our Graduate Schemes

The Insights Scheme – 24 months 

The Insight team is at the heart of the Ocado retail – from advising the buying team on promotions to run and products to range, to understanding how our customers buy their weekly shopping though to building models for new loyalty schemes and personalized marketing campaigns – data and insight are critical to everything we do. Our analysts become experts in the business function they support and develop the skills to produce great insight.

Application Requirements and What We are Looking for:

  • A 2:1 degree or higher having studied an undergraduate degree in Mathematics, STEM, Data Science and Analytics or an undergraduate degree that includes analytical modules, such as Business Management
  • Commercial awareness and problem-solving ability
  • Excellent Excel skills and experience with programming languages (such as SQL, R, Python, VBA, JavaScript) would be advantageous
  • Someone who is passionate about understanding data, market trends, and applying their understanding to real world scenarios
  • Analytical, and data-driven individuals who can build relationships to deliver best results to our clients and customers.
  • An individual who is keen to learn new skills, build on their existing knowledge and intellectually challenges the norm to help develop the business

The Buying Scheme – 24 months

The buying team is responsible for putting the customer at the heart of everything we do, truly living and breathing what our customers want to see when they shop with us!

Our team of buyers curates their ranges to deliver the unique customer experience gleaned from the largest range in the industry. They analyze consumer buying patterns, predict future trends, and work alongside our suppliers to maximize our offering to our customers. All of this is coupled with regularly reviewing performance indicators and profitability to manage the performance of their categories.

Application Requirements and What We are Looking for:

  • A 2:1 degree or higher 
  • Excellent Excel skills would be advantageous 
  • Commercial awareness and problem-solving ability 
  • Someone who is passionate about understanding market trends and customer preferences to position Ocado as the UK’s best online supermarket 
  • Analytical, and data-driven individuals who can network and build relationships internally, and with suppliers to deliver the best results for our customers 
  • Someone who is good at generating ideas and thinking innovatively to deliver commercial objectives of sales, profitability, and share growth 
  • Someone who is excited about working in retail 
  • Someone who is good at thinking on their feet and not afraid to challenge constructively

The Marketing Scheme – 24 months 

Within the department we have Brand Advertising (this is the team that’s responsible for our TV ads and *that* catchy jingle “There’s an Ocado Just For You”) and our CRM team at the coalface of our daily customer comms with trade-driving emails, SMS and push notifications. There’s our Trade Marketing team who bring all of the teams together to help deliver our customer comms calendar and our Digital Marketing team who go fishing everyday in the digital pools for new customers. Their team Content & Social Media delivers daily joy to our customers in the form of a monthly magazine, daily mouthwatering recipes and mesmerising TikTox. And, our PR & Comms team who spend their time shouting about all the reasons that make Ocado both a great place to work and a great place to shop. And, of course, we have our Eat Creative in-house creative agency who make the magic happen!

Application Requirements and What We are Looking for:

  • Graduate from an accredited UK University, with a minimum 2:2 
  • Curious about the customer – are you hungry to discover what makes our shoppers tick? 
  • Driven by data – can you turn information into actionable insights?
  • Creative collaborators – are you a team player who can inspire action with your big (and small) ideas?
  • Passionate about problem solving – can you bring a fresh perspective and help us build the supermarket of tomorrow, today?

The Finance Scheme – 3 years 

The Finance team at Ocado Retail are embedded as key partners to teams across the business – from Buying to Marketing to Operations – adding value and delivering on both immediate and long term strategy. Our commercial mindset, analytical eye and controlled focus enables the business to deliver long-term, sustainable growth. 

The scheme covers 3 years and will see Ocado Retail support you to achieve the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA)

Application Requirements and What We are Looking for:

  • Commercial awareness and problem-solving ability
  • Excel skills an advantage but not essential
  • Strong academics with demonstrated numerical and excel skills.
  • Graduate with a 2.1 or above 
  • Someone who is passionate about understanding the retail e-commerce environment, identifying business and market trends and customer behaviours
  • An analytical and a data-driven individual who can apply basic Excel skills to manipulate data and identify what it is telling us
  • Someone with the ability to build and develop relationships across the business to deliver the best results for our customers
