    About the team and the role

     

    At Ocado Retail our Finance team plays a critical role in supporting the business to drive forward. Reporting to the Financial Reporting & Controls Lead, the Tax Manager is responsible for overseeing all tax-related matters for the company, ensuring compliance with all relevant UK tax laws and regulations. This role involves Corporation Tax planning, compliance, and reporting, as well as providing advice on VAT, Employment Taxes and Customs & Excise duties.

     

    What you’ll do

     

    • Tax Compliance and Reporting: You will be responsible for the preparation and submission of various tax elements, including the UK Corporation Tax return for Ocado Retail Ltd (currently using AlphaCT), quarterly Corporation Tax instalment payments. In addition, review the monthly VAT return before it is submitted to HMRC and provide advice on the calculation of the annual PAYE Settlement Agreement payment.
    • Tax Planning and Strategy: Advise on the tax implications of business decisions and transactions and working with external advisers to maximise Corporation Tax relief and VAT repayment claims, as well as ad hoc projects. Preparation of current and deferred tax forecasts for the Ocado Retail Ltd budgeting and forecasting cycles.
    • Tax Provision and Accounting: Work closely with the Financial Reporting team to ensure accurate financial reporting including preparation of the tax charge and tax disclosures for the Ocado Retail Ltd Annual Report and shareholder (M&S and Ocado Group reporting). 
    • Tax Risk Management and Governance: Maintain and update Ocado Retail Ltd’s tax risk register and work with the Financial Controls team to manage tax risk and comply with SAO requirements. Drive improvements to tax policies, processes and training of non-specialists. Work with the Finance Transformation team and external advisers to drive innovation through tax technology. Annual update to the Ocado Retail Ltd Tax Strategy.
    • Stakeholder Communication: Act as the main point of contact for stakeholders both internally and externally, including tax advisers, auditors and HMRC. Provide tax updates to the Ocado Retail Ltd Audit Committee annually or as required. Communicate complex tax information clearly to non-tax professionals.

     

    Who you are

    • Accounting and/or taxation qualification (CTA/ACA/ACCA)
    • Strong understanding of relevant changes to the tax compliance landscape
    • Technical awareness and understanding of current and future requirements.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word with experience of tax systems
    • Experience of grocery retail/FMCG is desirable, particularly VAT
    • Excellent communication skills and ability to build relationships with key stakeholders, both internal & external to the business
    • A proactive individual that is passionate about driving change and maximising opportunities

    Data & Insight

    Data & insight is at the heart of the Ocado retail grocery team – from advising the buying team on promotions to run and products to range, to understanding how our customers buy their weekly shopping, though to building models for new loyalty schemes and personalised marketing campaigns – data and insight are critical to everything we do. We want our analysts to become experts in their areas as well as have the skills needed to produce great insight. We therefore run regular training sessions on the key tools needed – choosing visualisations, presentation skills, SQL, VBA and more.

    Role Summary

    Are you smart and numerate, with a passion for understanding what motivates consumers?  Are you commercially astute with a passion for FMCG or Retail? Are you able to extract insights from data and explain complex problems in a simple and clear way? Do you have the commercial awareness to weigh up multiple factors when making recommendations? Are you great at managing multiple stakeholders?

     

    As a Supplier Insight Analyst, you will be a member of the Grocery Insight Team, dedicated to working collaboratively with one of our largest suppliers to learn as much as we can about our shared customers. How do customers decide what products to buy? How do they find them on site? What can we do to increase brand loyalty? The role will involve extracting, manipulating and analysing data to make critical recommendations both internally and externally.

     

    What you’ll do

    Extracting, manipulating and analysing data to provide critical management information to enable decision making on the key questions facing the retail team & suppliers.

    • Drawing out the commercial implications of pieces of analysis and provide concise summaries to senior management.
    • Writing SQL code to extract appropriate data from our Oracle and BigQuery databases.
    • Working directly with external stakeholders.
    • Working collaboratively with both external and internal trading teams to drive growth for both

     

    Who you are
     

    • Numerate and analytical thinking with experience in retail or consumer-facing FMCG
    • Commercial awareness and problem-solving ability

    We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Construction Lead to oversee and lead various construction projects, including the development of new Customer Fulfilment Centres (CFCs) and spokes, as well as property improvements within the existing UK portfolio. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring these projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest standards. The role involves strategic planning, budget management, and coordination with multiple stakeholders to enhance the capacity and efficiency of our property network.

    Ocado Retail is in a strong position to grow sales and profitability and the Construction Lead has to be passionate about property development and owning the delivery of build projects to help the business achieve this growth. 

    Delivering profitable growth with our capacity requires interacting with a wide range of stakeholders across areas of Ocado Retail (e.g. Network Development, Property, Legal, Finance, Operations) as well as Ocado Group (Solutions Development, Commercial, Construction Engineering). Therefore, being able to flex your style and influence depending on the audience is crucial.

     

    What you’ll do

    Procurement strategy and compliance

    • Create procurement strategy and tender process for construction
    • Own compliance and proficiency with CDM regulations

    Budget Management:

    • Create and own the budget for all construction projects of between £1-100m.
    • Ensure projects are delivered on time and within the allocated budget.
    • Scrutinise and challenge the scope and costs of construction projects to ensure a strong return on investment.
    • Seek opportunities for cost savings without compromising quality.

    Project Delivery:

    • Coordinate and document user requirements, aligning them with project goals.
    • Manage the end-to-end delivery of construction projects, ensuring they meet user requirements and current regulations.
    • Manage dilapidation assessments and oversee the completion of dilapidations projects.

    Design and Planning:

    • Support the design process for new CFCs and spokes.
    • Work closely with property acquisition teams to support the property procurement process.
    • Liaise with planning consultants to meet all planning requirements.
    • Identify and organise necessary surveys for construction.

    Efficiency and Value Engineering:

    • Challenge the project scope to ensure requirements are identified and met while identifying cost-saving opportunities.
    • Identify value engineering opportunities and integrate them into the user requirements for build.
    • Seek and implement opportunities to increase the capacity and efficiency of the property network.

    Contract Management:

    • Take ownership of design and build contracts, ensuring they are executed effectively and efficiently.

    Who you are

    • Proven knowledge of different property procurement methods, including their various advantages and disadvantages.
    • Demonstrated experience in the delivery of multi-million-pound capex developments.
    • Experience of duty holding for meeting compliance obligations and proficiency with CDM regulations
    • Preferred experience in building warehouses.
    • Strong financial acumen with the ability to manage and control large budgets.
    • Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
    • Strong project management skills with a track record of delivering projects on time and within budget.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or a related field. A Master’s degree or additional certifications in project management is a plus.
    • Professional certifications such as PMP (Project Management Professional), CCM (Certified Construction Manager), or similar credentials are highly desirable.

    As a Digital Content Manager, you will be responsible for the management, coordination and implementation of the defined onsite content strategy, delivering the content plan for each part of the site, ensuring enhancements to the customer journey to drive brand enhancements and deliver commercial results. This role ensures we are utilising content to inspire customers and allow them to shop smarter, whilst keeping shopping simple and protecting our retail media revenue.
     

    What you’ll do

    • Commercially leverage content to drive sales, utilising new features delivered through OSP and identifying areas of the site to prioritise for content creation
    • Own the delivery of content for Ocado.com across multiple teams, ensuring a seamless journey for customers across product categories and across campaigns to optimise sales and customer experience.
    • Drive innovation and provide inspiration for our customers through continually thinking through new ways to shop that drive conversion and sales, looking for new ways to inspire customers through content.
    • Building strong relationships with internal teams as well as key suppliers, including M&S, to utilise supplier knowledge and help to identify upcoming category and mission trends to generate content.
    • Evaluate and react to competitors’ content initiatives.
    • Drive forward with insight into the metrics of success and tracking of impact of content, including clear input into CRO testing plan to continually test and learn.
    • Build and drive forward continuous improvement in overall content strategy, including processes to source, manage and effectively maintain content on site.
    • While this role does not have a direct team, the role would be required to matrix manage cross functionally across Creative, Commercial and Ecommerce to optimise both the customer experience and media opportunities.

    • Event management support – support various  events throughout the year

    The Commercial Finance team has exposure to the heartbeat of how our business trades and plays a key role in delivering on our financial objectives. This team provides insight, value add and reporting for both Ocado.com and Zoom by Ocado. It’s an exciting time to join the Commercial Finance Team as we head into a pivotal period of accelerated growth and continue to Raise the bar for both our finance and commercial colleagues.

    Reporting to the Senior Finance Manager, you will be responsible for supporting the Fresh team, providing financial expertise and challenge to the commercial teams in order to deliver profitable growth for Ocado retail. This includes evaluating cost structures, tenders and joint business plans, as well as day to day trading decisions, like pricing and promotions

    What you’ll do

    You'll partner your functional area to support leadership make the right decisions, and play a critical role in identifying, recommending, and concluding on business opportunities to create value

    • Be the trusted business partner for the 2x Trading Managers and the Fresh Commercial Director
    • Support with providing regular, robust and insightful reporting around trade performance, understanding mix vs rate analysis and how the various brands are driving performance
    • Make complex financial scenarios easy for non-financial colleagues
    • Working with our data insight colleagues, cut through the data to enable better & faster commercial decision making, ensuring we provide our customers with the most comprehensive and compelling ranges
    • Work closely with the supporting function in the preparation and review of budgets and forecasts 
    • Play a key role in developing and following up on ‘gap closing’ activities to ensure performance is delivered in line with expectations
    • Support in annual business plans with suppliers to negotiate the best deal for Ocado, then monitor performance against agreed targets throughout the year, advising on course corrections if required
    • Own the forecasting process for your category, making forecasting accuracy improvements and enabling key trade drivers to be understood
    • Month end support by providing the central team with accruals and accurate supplier income outturn
    • Identifying and Implementing improvements to ways of working within the Commercial Finance Teams
    • Evaluating and challenging new product launches, promotional activities new proposals/existing business to ensure profitability
    • Participate in cross functional project groups
    • Providing ad hoc Finance support
    • Supervise and coach the SFA / analyst in the team leading them through

    Who you are

    • Qualified accountant with strong academics 
    • Previous Retail experience advantageous

    This role will be joining the Operations Finance team, where we look after all things related to the management of our operational spend and performance, our supply chain and the development of our warehouse and delivery network.

     

    The Finance Operations team are key business partners to the internal Operations team and work closely with our partners at Ocado Logistics and Ocado Solutions; we strive to provide best in class insight and analysis into operational spend & investments to help drive improved profitability. With exposure to senior stakeholders and management of more than £800m worth of operational costs it’s an exciting and broad role which has a real impact on the business.

     

    Reporting to the Senior Finance Manager for Operations, the role is pivotal in challenging and analysing operational costs and fees, supporting on key strategic projects and business partnering across the business to support growth and profitability.

     

    What you’ll do

     

    • Ownership of key Operational and Fee costs lines totalling c£800m in annual spend
    • Business partner Ocado Logistics and Ocado Solutions, tracking and challenging all costs for the Ocado.com and Zoom businesses 
    • Lead the annual Operations Budget and 5 Year Plan processes and oversee the monthly forecasting process
    • Business partner the internal Operations team to support the delivery of the business strategy 
    • Support on key cross-functional projects to improve operational efficiencies and enhance the customer proposition, including the creation of detailed financial models
    • Oversee month end processes and review monthly balance sheet reconciliations produced by the internal accounting function, implementing robust cost controls

The Legal and Compliance team is fully integrated across the whole business and we work closely with our colleagues to ensure they meet their strategic objectives. We are a small team, ambitious and curious, and we like to find innovative and commercial solutions to tricky legal problems.  The role of Legal Counsel is a key member of that team, reporting directly into the Head of Legal. This role provides commercial legal support including: advising and supporting the business on commercial contracts, data protection, general regulatory matters including consumer law, competition law and marketing guidelines, intellectual property and litigation / disputes.

    What you’ll do

    The Legal Counsel will support the business’s pursuit of its commercial ambitions in a legally compliant way.  Examples of the work undertaken by the legal team include the following:

    • Responsibility for providing day-to-day legal advice to the business
    • Effective business partnering which facilitates and supports proactive issue spotting and problem solving.
    • Reviewing, drafting, negotiating and advising on a range of commercial contracts, including data processing agreements, contracts for goods and services, IT and software contracts.
    • Advising on consumer laws and advertising and marketing laws.
    • Advising on GSCOP and competition law.
    • Advising on escalated customer claims.
    • Advising on litigation matters.
    • Developing and providing training to the business.
    • Develop strong working relationships with key business functions.
    • Remaining current with the latest regulations, trends and leading practices and responding accordingly.

    Who you are

    Minimum:

    • Qualified solicitor with post qualification experience as a general commercial lawyer. 
    • Sound commercial awareness and good communication skills.
    • Pragmatic, commercial and risk-based approach.
    • Flexibility and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
    • Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills.
    • Ability to work to deadlines and manage competing demands from various stakeholders.

    Preferred (not required)

    • Consumer law experience, preferably Retail.
    • Experience of any one or more of the following areas: Competition law, Employment law, Groceries Supply Code of Practice, Data Protection.
    • Private practice experience.

    The Merchandising and Events Lead is responsible to lead a team in the management, coordination and implementation of the merchandising and events strategy, ensuring right first time implementation.

    As a Lead role, you will be accountable for the overall success of the function, ensuring you are continually driving improvements and developments considering this from an internal as well as an overall customer perspective.     • Maximise online sales and profit through aligned merchandising and trading plans, leading on merchandising strategy and execution across trading activity and range changes.
    • You will have full accountability for delivery of merchandising, campaign KPIs and objectives.
    • Take full ownership for merchandising of the website, including executing all relevant promotions on time, contributing and executing the Customer Plan.
    • Influence the shape and direction of onsite merchandising and optimisation, tactically for the short term, and strategically for the medium and long term – ensuring strong collaboration with all relevant collaborators. 
    • Lead the implementation of category trading, ranging and merchandising strategy, managing the team to ensure overall success.
    • Manage the quality and consistency of onsite experience and optimisation across the full onsite offer, including product ranging, imagery and content 
    • Drive results and ongoing refinement of the customer journeys, search, navigation and taxonomy to ensure conversion funnel is optimised.
    • Acts as the key liaison between Commercial, Trade Marketing, Content & Design and Ecommerce, creating required briefs and utilising insight to optimise inflight opportunities.
    • Investigate and propose new sales generation and business efficiency opportunities, with ongoing awareness of market and third party opportunities.
    • Feed requirements for new features and functionality into wider digital development and offsite teams to ensure best possible journeys across all touch points, including CRO opportunities.
